]]> Grand-parenting is a wonderful opportunity to re-experience life through the eyes of a child! However, it can be tiring, depending on our physical capabilities, the number of grandchildren we have and see at one time, how often we see them, as well as their specific needs and requirements. In the process of fulfilling our roles and caring for our grandchildren, we must remember to take care of ourselves. Sometimes, that may come in the form of saying no, no matter how badly we want to say, yes!

]]> Our youth can be somewhat difficult to deal with, at times and some situations may call for stepping back and letting them figure their issues out by themselves, depending upon their age. However, children don’t need to be abandoned or made to fell like they don’t matter. If done respectfully and effectively, grandparents can serve as a mental and emotional support system for the grandchildren, by helping to instill and reinforce the fundamental values of the parents (which hopefully aren’t that different from the grandparents). In many instances, grandparents help the family continue to function, as a cohesive unit.
